Wi’kipaltimk – A Mawio’mi (Gathering) for All
Honouring Indian Day School Survivors and Celebrating Mi’kmaq Culture
August 8–10, 2025 | Open Hearth Park, Sydney, Unama’ki (Cape Breton)
Wi’kipaltimk, the Mi’kmaq word for feast, is more than a meal—it is a sacred act of gathering with purpose. It represents honour, healing, cultural expression, and intergenerational unity through ceremony, song, dance, and storytelling.
From August 8–10, 2025, Open Hearth Park in Sydney will become a place of truth-telling and celebration as communities come together to commemorate Indian Day School Survivors and uplift Mi’kmaq culture. Led by Indigenous voices and guided by Survivors, Wi’kipaltimk will feature:
A Mawio’mi, Powwow
Cultural ceremonies and teachings
Concerts by Indigenous artists
Artisan and crafters marketplace
Workshops, youth programming, and food experiences
Wi’kipaltimk is a living expression of reconciliation—where the beat of the drum echoes the stories of our ancestors and where Elders and youth walk together in strength. This gathering is free and open to everyone, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, to share in a weekend of learning, healing, and cultural celebration.
